FULL MOON 2022

Full Moon was a collaborative poetry development programme created by GOBS Collective that explored spoken word performance through sound, stagecraft and collective storytelling. Across the programme, participating poets developed their own individual poems while experimenting with performance techniques and creative collaboration. Writers explored how separate pieces could exist together as part of a larger shared performance.

With workshops taking place across several full moons, the programme featured collaboration with vocalist and sound artist Randolph Matthews, who worked with poets using loop station, vocal improvisation, movement and imagination in performance. Participants also explored elements of stage lighting and production together with lighting designer Sam Osborne, developing an understanding of how visual design contributes to atmosphere and storytelling in live poetry performance.

Each poet created an individual poem which was later brought together as part of a collective performance showcase directed by John Berkavitch, with live soundscapes and music from Randolph Matthews. A collaboratively made, printed anthology presented the work developed during the programme.

“The most enjoyable for me was the fact that I was able to overcome my personal obstacles. I enjoyed the ride as a whole and watching my peers go through the journey too, seeing them all shine at the showcase.”
“Seeing the performance come together was wonderful. I also loved watching and critiquing other performers’ work.”
