Workshop: Mini-Zine Making with Sarah Wheatley (Nottingham Poetry Festival)

  • Nottingham Central Library 1 Carrington Street NG1 7FH (map)

Imagine holding a miniature book of your words. Imagine you’ve made it yourself, out of a single piece of A4. Well, you won’t have to imagine if you come along to this special mini-zine workshop with super-creative GOBS poet Sarah Wheatley!

In just one session, you’ll learn the fundamentals of layout, experiment with design, and play with a variety of mixed media to create your own tiny poetry zine – perfect for gifts, whether for others or yourself.

Bring your own poem(s), or if you’d rather keep it fresh, feel inspired to write something new on the day. You won’t have to bring anything else, as all art materials will be provided, including both collage and background papers.

Choose from any of three slots, and join us for a relaxed hour of fun and creativity where you can literally shape your poetry into an object you’ll treasure.

Slot 1: 10am-11am
Slot 2: 11am-12pm
Slot 3: 1pm-2pm

About Sarah

Sarah is a poet and a performer, a creative and a carer. As a proud member of the spoken word GOBS Collective since 2023, she has subsequently performed with fellow members at the Nottingham Playhouse and the Hockley Hustle.

She gets really excited about books and creating tiny things out of tiny bits and pieces, and loves experimenting with her poetry through word play and art. She decided to combine all of these things by designing, creating and launching her free Poetry Swatch mini-zine series in August 2024. She creates each mini-zine individually, combining her passions of poetry, art and sewing.

Sarah believes there is a natural creativity and curiosity within all of us and she wants to encourage everyone to explore their own poetry and art.

This event is part of Nottingham Poetry Festival.
